Our Groups

Our school is divided into five different groups supervised by teachers and group helpers: red, green, blue, yellow and orange group. We also have a playgroup in which the parents participate. We also offer support for GSCE exams.

As a rule, the children of a group stay together as a community over their DSS schooling with an adapted curriculum for the following reasons:
• Similar language and age level
• Group stability – so that friendships can develop because you only see each other once a week.

The establishment of new groups depends largely on reliably available teachers and helpers, a minimum number of students and the spatial approval of the English school.

Play Group

0-4 years

The playgroup is aimed at children of preschool age and is organized by German-speaking parents. The focus is on the playful encounter with the German language and culture – through singing, storytelling and joint activities.

Families are welcome, even if they are not (yet) part of the DSS. The group also offers a great opportunity for parents to make contacts and exchange ideas.

Supervision: The German-speaking parent remains present as a reference person during the playgroup.
Registration: by term

Red Group

4-5 years

Through a variety of creative activities such as playing, handicrafts, singing and storytelling, we create an environment in which our youngest students gain self-confidence and develop their language skills through the active use of the German language. The targeted integration of regular repetitions and a multi-sensory learning approach enables the children not only to learn vocabulary and expressions, but also to develop a deep understanding of the language.

Blue Group

7-8 years
The children of the blue group are five to six years old, attend the years 2 and 3 in the English school. Conversation, handicrafts, singing and games are on the program here as well as German writing exercises. In our lessons we value activities such as painting, reading, playing and handicrafts. At the same time, we focus more on promoting conversation, expression and correct sentence structure in order to develop the language skills of the students. The importance of reading and writing is becoming increasingly important in our teaching method in order to give students a solid foundation in language.

Yellow Group

8-10 years
In the group of 8/9 year olds, we combine learning with movement and work in a topic- and project-oriented manner, so that all fields of competence (reading, speaking, writing, grammar) come into their own. For example, the children can read instructions themselves, are ingenious to implement and together we get mini-stories written for which they are made.

Orange Group

10- gcse age
The older students at our school, higher classes attend their English schools, with the focus on oral and written expression, grammar, spelling and improving reading skills. In this group, more complex German language and writing exercises are carried out, which enable the students to write their own texts by the end of the school year and to hold small presentations with ease. Our teaching method in the Orange Group aims to provide older students with a solid linguistic basis, thereby developing their written and oral communication skills in German at an advanced level.
